Brendan Rodgers ‘incredibly disappointed’ after being sacked as Liverpool manager

The BBC Sport’s Ben Smith says Carlo Ancelotti is in London, where the Reds presently have an office, but reiterates the Premier League side are upbeat on opening contract talks with Klopp.

The ESPN FC panel answer whether Ancelotti or Klopp are the better choice for Liverpool and if Celta Vigo are for real. “I think he has demonstrated in Dortmund that he can work at any team in the world”. He was the closest certainly to win the Premiership of all the managers who have been working for the club. Forget talking about the title.

As we reported exclusively earlier today, Klopp has been speaking with former Red Didi Hamann about Liverpool as a club and seeking his advice on taking the job. That, though, is where we find ourselves today, with Rodgers sacked and the club moving on.

Yes, the squad may be in transition, but the job of a manager is to manage said transition.

“He’s going to want to be going to a big club, a club where he’s got a chance of being successful and winning”.

However, Klopp remains the favourite and Sky Sports News claim that Liverpool are keen to appoint a successor to Rodgers as quickly as possible so I’m sure we’ll hear more developments over the coming days.

“It hasn’t gone well for him this season”, Carragher said on Super Sunday. “It has been both an honour and a privilege to manage one of the game’s great clubs for the last three years”, he began.

‘I believe they have looked and probably already done the deal for it and that’s why they have made the decision [to sack Rodgers]. That’s the situation it’s become for Liverpool, even when I was there towards the end.

It is the group that plots and carries out transfer strategy and up until Sunday night consisted of Rodgers, scouts Dave Fallows and Barry Hunter, the man in charge of analysis Michael Edwards, FSG’s Anfield representative Mike Gordon and chief executive Ian Ayre.

Arsene Wenger expects to see Rodgers back in management before long.

“Brendan is without doubt one of the most talented and forward-thinking British managers in the game”, he said.

“When they’ve lost those players they’ve then reinvested the money”, added Carragher.
