‘There are no leaders in Chelsea team’

Mourinho, who coached Porto to Champions League glory in 2004, has now gone back to his old club three times with Chelsea and is still to win.

“Apart from those two ridiculous mistakes I think the performance was balanced”. Two ridiculous moments and we were punished.

Ferdinand, however, believes the Blues boss made a mistake with his selection.

Nevertheless, Costa felt Chelsea did enough to win at Porto, only to concede a “ridiculous” victor from a corner.

“In situations like this when the ship needs steering a little bit on the pitch when the manager can’t be the man on the pitch I think he is someone this team has always looked to”. And in a moment when the game was under control and we were preparing a change, to concede that goal was like ice in the players. “We had another similar mistake (from a corner) when they hit the post”.

Asked if he would like 11 players to show the same desire of Costa after Chelsea’s stuttering start, Mourinho could not resist a dig at the Football Association for the retrospective ban.

Chelsea have now lost five games in all competitions this season – more than they did in the entirety of the 2014-15 campaign, when Terry was an ever-present member of the team that won the Premier League. Maybe you contain your emotions a bit more, I didn’t celebrate our goal for example.

“I would love to play against Real Madrid in the round of 16”, he continued.

“It’s obviously important for us to get two good results in the Premier League”.

What did you make of Chelsea’s performance last night?

Porto are difficult opponents, it’s a difficult place to play – the Champions League brings extra emotions and with the crowd pumped up it’s hard to play here. “Those Porto defenders will know all the Chelsea players and they will have looked at the bench and thought: ‘That’s all right, there is no striker there to worry me!’ The two mistakes that cost us the game, a game that was fantastic”.

“So when they make their changes, there was nobody to run behind the Porto back four, so this was poor all round”.

Chelsea are third in Group G, a point behind Porto and Dynamo Kiev. He has proven himself to be a victor and when things aren’t going well, you need characters to turn it around.
