Litton throws 2 TDs, Marshall beats Southern Miss, 31-10
There have been murmurs that Southern Miss has an outside shot at having a say in the Conference United States of America title race this season.

Coming into the season, many pointed to today’s game at Marshall as one the Golden Eagles would, in all likelihood, lose. Mike Thomas’ 109 yards led the Golden Eagles, while Casey Martin added a team-high nine catches for 85 yards.
As could be garnered from the 10 points the Golden Eagles scored against Marshall, their offense was not up to task on Friday.
The Herd found the end zone twice more on the night.
Marshall (4-1) and Southern Mississippi (3-2) will each be looking for their second conference win of the season in this one.
The mirror image half continued with Marshall’s Nick Smith splitting the uprights from 34 yards, tying the game at 10 with 8:36 left in the quarter. But Marshall’s Deandre Reaves’ set the home team up with good field position, matching his teammate’s 33- yard return, setting the Thundering Herd up at their own 48-yard line.
Shaunfield lined up a 21-yard attempt only to have it blocked by Ryan Bee. “Then, you get a field goal blocked and the momentum changes”. The pass and reception was the longest of the season for both Litton and Reaves. The Golden Eagles had initially stopped the Herd and forced them to try a field goal, but jumped offsides to help extend the drive.
Southern Miss ran into a large, green buzzsaw Saturday at Marshall.
Southern Miss has played much better than most expected, and the Thundering Herd isn’t the same team that hung at least 59 points on the Golden Eagles in each of the teams’ last three meetings.

“It was big, getting a lot of pressure on (Mullens)”, Lang said of the Golden Eagles’ junior who was 29-of-58 for 314 yards with one interception. There were just too many things we did poorly against a good football team.
