The liftgate control modules in 2014-15 Cherokees equipped with power liftgates may be inadvertently exposed to water, which can cause the mechanism to catch fire. “However, the Company is unaware of any related injuries or accidents”.
Over 99,000 of the Cherokees are in the USA, 13,195 are in Canada, 2,406 are in Mexico and 48,966 of the SUVs are outside those regions.
It began an investigation after learning of a reported vehicle fire. The estimated total recall population is 164,003.
Chrysler says it will advise vehicle owners when they may schedule service. After it arrives, you’ll be able to take your Cherokee to a Jeep dealer who will inspect the SUV’s power liftgate control module for signs of water intrusion and replace the component if necessary.
