Now Samsung hasn’t lost its senses completely: The Gear VR is only compatible with 2015 Samsung devices, namely the Galaxy S6, S6 edge+, S6 edge and Note 5.

It seems that the new Gear VR is a lot better than its predecessor, the Innovator Edition, which was priced double as the one announced today by Samsung and Oculus. In addition, it is also 22 percent lighter than the Innovator Edition and included redesigned foam cushioning which together will make for a more comfortable experience for users. Samsung launched the first version of the Gear VR in September a year ago. They also cut the price in half over the former headset, now down to $99 from $199 previously.
The Gear VR’s touchpad has been improved, providing greater control while enjoying the robust selection of film, gaming, 360-degree video and experiential content available for Gear VR, the company said.
Samsung, in collaboration with Facebook’s Oculus VR, introduced the fresh version of the VR headset last Thursday at an Oculus developer event held in Los Angeles.

Beyond Netflix, it looks like other popular streaming video services are heading to virtual reality in the near future: Hulu, Twitch and Vimeo were all announced alongside the news of Netflix heading to virtual reality.
VR specific games will also be released in the first quarter of 2016 for the Oculus Rift. The Korean electronics company hopes the changes to the Gear VR, which ships in November, will help push virtual reality into the mainstream.

Once the Gear VR is out there will already be a decent variety of virtual reality content available for the device.
