Video shows Texas officer grabbing student’s throat
The Round Rock Police Department did put out a statement detailing the incident, they say no criminal charges against Hughes have been filed but they did not mention that a chokehold was used on him.

The student’s uncle, Kenyatte Hughes, sent KVUE cell phone video of the incident.
In a video obtained by KEYE, a school resource officer is seen in a hallway grabbing a 14 year-old student by the throat, and subduing him to the ground.
Apparently, the student was involved in a fight with another student over football goggles and school administrators called the police.
The student told the local TV station that after one of the officers berated him for his behavior, he asked to be left alone.
Gyasi’s father, Kashka Hughes, said the police at the Round Rock High school in Texas should know such brutal force is not necessary for children. “I’m not doing anything, I’m walking away like you told me to?'” Gyasi told KXAN News. After the fight broke out, the teen was then asked to walk away.
However, Gyasi said the fight had already been broken up by the assistant principal by the time the police officers arrived.
They tried talking Hughes down but round rock police say they couldn’t and were forced to detain him. “That’s the point when he grabbed me and took me down and tried to detain me”, he recounted, “I was just very upset, I was amped up over the fight and wasn’t really thinking”. Adding, “This incident is now under review by the police department staff”.
“I apologized to the officer”, said Gyasi. Shortly thereafter the young man is grabbed by the throat and spun around before before dropped to the floor.
“I believe that the officer in question should defiantly go through a few re-training or be reassessed in terms of how you handle conflicts like this”, said Hughes.

FOX 7 has learned that Hughes’ father has filed charges against the officer for excessive force. “I’ve definitely seen how the guards in the schools as well as how my dad handled various situations when kids were in certain altercations”.
