Dolphins DC Kevin Coyle Has Finally Been Fired

Defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle, largely responsible for the debacle that has been the Dolphins 1-3 start, has been fired after several days of deliberating from Dolphins brass. Coyle was retained this off-season by Joe Philbin who also on Sunday told the media that he would not fire Coyle.

Miami entered the year as a playoff contender largely due to its expected defensive output. In terms of yards allowed, Miami is ranked 30th out of the 32 teams in the National Football League.

Last week, in the days before Miami lost to the New York Jets in London, Dolphins defensive players reportedly held a meeting with Coyle, frustrated by his schemes.

Coyle had been Miami’s DC since 2012 which followed on an already long coaching career.

The Dolphins were said to be eyeing former head coaches as potential defensive additions – Greg Schiano and Mike Smith among them – though no hires have been made to this point.

Anarumo is in his fourth season with the Dolphins.

Lou Anarumo will take over on an interim basis.

Coyle was defensive backs coach at the Cincinnati Bengals prior to taking the Miami job.

As Breer hinted at in that tweet and later elaborated on, the Dolphins are apparently interested in bringing in a senior assistant with head coaching experience to aid this coaching staff in their transition.
