Former A’s draft pick dies from injuries in earlier shooting

Michael Nolan, a former A’s minor league pitcher who was the victim of a drive-by shooting last month in New York, died Friday.

Michael Nolan was with friends at a Burger King in Yonkers on September 18, when five or six shots were fired at their vehicle, according to The Journal News. He was declared brain dead late this week at Jacobi Medical Center and then fatally succumbed to his injuries, according to WCBS-TV.

The Yonkers native was drafted by Oakland in the 18th round of the 2014 draft.

The 23-year-old Nolan had previously been placed on the organization’s restricted list after being drafted citing eventual plans to retire and take a job closer to home.

Upon learning the news and details his death, the Oakland A’s and general manager David Frost tweeted a statement of condolence towards Nolan and his family, expressing their thoughts, prayers, and sorrow.

No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, but the investigation is continuing.

Nolan had been hospitalized in New York City since the shooting.

Michael Nolan was a graduate of Saunders Trades and Technical High School, where he stood out as a baseball player and his younger brother still attends.
