Quite a few fans and critics of the Fast & Furious franchise became highly skeptical when it was first announced that there would even be an eighth movie.

This finally came after days and weeks of speculation that directors didn’t want to work with Diesel, that Diesel might want to direct himself, and that he was actually iming for original director Rob Cohen – among other rumors and reports. After the previous film Furious 7 shattered box office records making over a billion dollars worldwide, the pressure to deliver another hit falls on the shoulder of F Gary Gray now.

Gray has brought us films such as The Italian Job and Be Cool during his career but this will be his first movie since the huge success of Straight Outta Compton earlier this year.

Gray has directed Diesel in 2003’s action-thriller A Man Apart.

Diesel starred in the first xXx movie in 2002, one year after he appeared in the first Fast and the Furious movie. Now the focus can return to finishing a script and getting Furious 8 on track for release in a year-and-a-half.
