After two really messed up allegations involving KFC’s mutant chicken in China and an alleged Fried Rat in California, the fast food giant is dealing with yet another allegation regarding food safety, this time in India.

Tests conducted by the Telangana State Food Laboratory found the KFC food samples to contain bacteria found in human waste. The SFL is a part of the Hyderabad-based Institute of Preventive Medicine (IPM).
“I am of the opinion that the sample contains E.coli & salmonella which are pathogens and injurious to health. It is, therefore, unsafe”. The samples were collected from KFC outlets at Himayatnagar, Vidyanagar, Chikkadpally, Nacharam and ECIL Cross Road on June 18. “It showed that harmful substances like E Coli and Salmonella (bacteria) were present in KFC (product)”, Bala Hakkula Sangham (Andhra Pradesh Child Rights Association) president Anuradha Rao said in a media release here.
The company on Thursday night said it hadn’t received any intimation from authorities and would seek clarification from them.
KFC had said in its statement on Friday that it was a “false allegation, and an attempt to malign its brand reputation”.
“We are not certain if this alleged sample was actually culled from a KFC store, what is the condition in which this was stored or transported”, it totaled. “We are committed to following the best worldwide standards and serving the highest quality products to all our customers across all our restaurants”, KFC said in a statement. In any case, there is no possibility of any microbial development in our food which is freshly cooked at 170 degrees Celsius.
While the NGO sought an immediate ban on KFC products, K Balaji Raju, the designated food safety officer (DFSO) in charge of central zone of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) clarified that his department cannot take action if food samples are tested independently by an NGO.
