Tiger Stadium will be mostly empty for the LSU-South Carolina game

“Our football team didn’t have it bad, we have no excuses”, Spurrier said. Now ranked 4th for rushing yards averaging 334 per game, this will be the shovel they bury the Gamecocks season with. LSU is now No. 7 in the rankings at a record of 2-0 in conference and 4-0 overall. LSU, who is already 2-0 SU within the SEC, will carry on their season when they visit the South Carolina Gamecocks Saturday.

The LSU Tigers have been dominant within the SEC, which has led to six of LSU’s past seven games within the conference going UNDER.

It should be quite a sight with South Carolina moving it’s home game with LSU to Baton Rouge because of the aftermath of severe flooding in and around Columbia, S.C. From “Geaux Gamecocks” billboards to playing the South Carolina alma mater and fight song before the game, LSU and numerous school’s supporters have gone above and beyond to make a road game feel like a home game.

LSU did everything it could to accommodate South Carolina in the days and hours leading up to Saturday’s kick off in Baton Rouge.

Louisiana State University star running back Leonard Fournette said in a postgame interview that he would auction off his jersey to the highest bidder and donate the proceeds to the victims of the South Carolina flooding, but initial reports said the NCAA claimed the act would be a violation of rules. “Geaux Gamecocks” was quickly added to billboards around town as well and at the stadium.

After starting with a 20-yard pass from Harris to Dupre and a first-down run by Fournette, an illegal block stalled the Tigers’ drive in South Carolina territory.

After Elliott Fry put South Carolina on top 3-0 with a 21-yard field goal, Harris drove LSU 75 yards in 13 plays for the go-ahead score, a 4-yard burst by Darrel Williams.

“I want to send my prayers, condolences and empathy to the people of South Carolina”, said Fournette.

Technically, the Gamecocks will be the home team in Death Valley – a bit of irony for a team whose chief in-state rival, Clemson, plays in a stadium with the same nickname.

LSU led 24-10 with 14:01 remaining in the third quarter. Harris looked in charge all day, controlling the offense instead of just standing in the backfield to hand off to Fournette.

Williams ran for two touchdowns on 10 carriers – with Fournette’s help, of course. And he shared his idea with the world following the Tigers’ 45-24 win over the Gamecocks.

The ubiquitous LSU running back became Las Vegas’ first Heisman Trophy favorite in more than 20 years.

“Everyone in this area kind of understands what we’re going through”, Orth said, referring to Katrina’s devastation a decade ago. “It’s just very hard for an opponent to come in and pretend you’re the home team”.

“It was hard week for so many South Carolinians”, Spurrier said. “We didn’t nearly win this one”. “We just aren’t as talented as we have been in years past”. “We are a struggling bunch”.

At 158 yards on 20 carries, his work was done. There were a lot more bright spots than causes for concenr in this one, though.

The Tigers return to action Saturday hosting the No. 11 Florida Gators. “I felt like I talked to them, and the answers with that scenario came from my guys”, Miles said.
