North Charleston officer fired over Confederate flag boxers Facebook photo
The action comes as the heated debate over Old South symbols continues after last week’s killing of nine worshipers at a black church in Charleston.

The mass shooting triggered a massive shift in the display of the Confederate flag – with the governors of several states, including South Carolina, calling for its removal from government buildings.
Dildine served as an officer in North Charleston. A flag maker has chose to quit manufacturing the flag.
Police chief Eddie Driggers said flag symbolized “hate and oppression” .
But the news out of North Charleston, S.C. that a police officer has been fired for posing on Facebook in a pair of Confederate flag boxer shorts strikes us as … well, ridiculous.
Sgt. Shannon Dildine, of North Charleston police, was issued a termination letter two days after the police chief learned about the social media post, reported WCIV-TV.
It was one of those don’t pass Go, don’t collect your $200 type of firings (though Dildine does have 10 days to appeal his termination).
Driggers said defense attorneys could use the photo to question Dildine’s motivation in arresting minorities. “In light of current events posting an inflammatory photograph in a way that permitted it to become widely distributed shows a lack of reason or judgment that is unacceptable”.

Do you think Sgt. While some of those arguments will be based exclusively on emotion, others will be well thought out and may even be similar to arguments used by lawyers fighting to get jobs back for Dildine and people who have been similarly fired over Facebook posts.
