Man dumps his wife of 4 weeks via WhatsApp
“A woman in India got married to a man from Kerala, who moved to Dubai ten days after his marriage and a total of four weeks later, sent the triple ‘Talaq” on the messaging service, hereby dismissing their very short lived marriage. The 21 year-old dropped out of college and her younger sister left school in sympathy.

Women’s Commission member Dr Prameela Devi said that the man had lived only 10 days with his wife after the marriage.
Meanwhile, the “WhatsApp talaq” has started a new debate between the Islamic scholars questioning its validity. A member of the Samastha Kerala Jam-Iyyathul Ulama stated that the talaq is legitimate.
“The commission has ordered the department of non-resident Keralites” affairs to find the 27-year-old husband who hails from Vaikom in Kottayam. She said the only message she got was this Talaq message on WhatsApp.
The Times of India said a recent study by a non-government organisation Bharatiya Muslim Mahila Andolan showed that Muslim women were against the discriminatory practice of the triple talaq with 92.1% seeking its ban.
The Commission has sent a notice to the parents of the man asking them to appear before it in the next sitting.
B Sugathakumari, former chair of the state women’s commission, told the Times of India: “I don’t think a normal youth can act in this manner”. If the husband is trong about his decision, then the divorce will be sanctioned, said Sayyed Attakoya Thangal, the district president of the Ulama.
“Talaq should ideally be done face-to-face”. However, another viewpoint says talaq should be done face-to-face or else relevant documents should be signed by witnesses.

Describing talaq through social media like Facebook and WhatsApp as “barbaric”, Kerala Nadvathul Mujahideen state President T P Abdulla Majeed, said this was against humanity.
