Pac-12 football: Washington State tops Oregon in 2OT

Don’t look now, but the Oregon Ducks are in trouble.

Tui Talia would start the Defense with a tackle for loss and Falk would be sacked by Tyson Coleman on 2nd down.

The Wildcats (4-2, 1-2 Pac-12) amassed 645 yards to 249 for the Beavers (2-3, 0-2). The redshirt sophomore and second-year starter, who sat out the previous week’s 55-17 loss at Stanford because of a concussion, completed 17 of 30 passes for 276 yards before sitting out the fourth quarter.

“I know what kind of player Dom is … you can’t single him up on a fade”, Falk said.

“We have to learn to finish”.

Vernon Adams Jr., who was named Oregon’s starting QB just prior to the beginning of the season, broke the index finger on his throwing hand in the Ducks’ opener against his former team, Eastern Washington. Lockie has struggled as of late at the helm of the offense, and Mark Helfrich needs to find a solution and quick to get this offense back up and running in a balanced fashion.

WSU went on offense first in the second OT and got a break on the first play when Oregon defensive back Tyree Robinson was called for a personal foul for a tackle out of bounds.

But they couldn’t hold back the floodgates entirely.

But Falk responded with pass completions of 23 and 22 yards to Dom Williams and Gabe Marks, respectively, ending the drive with an 8-yard touchdown pass to Williams with 1 second left.

Falk threw for a season-high 505 yards and five touchdowns, including a momentary nail-biter that turned out to be the game victor, and the Cougars snapped an eight-game losing streak to the Ducks with a 45-38 victory in double overtime on Saturday night.

Oregon scored quickly in the first overtime, on a 16-yard run by Royce Freemanand a nine-yard TD pass from Jeff Lockie to Bralon Addison.

The Oregon defense remains a mess, as it gave up 641 total yards to the Cougars.

In his place, both Lockie and Taylor Alie have rotated.

They would not. Quarterback Jeff Lockie would force Oregon to punt as Ian Wheeler would kick the ball to the 26 yard line where Washington State would take over. “I think that’s the most important thing to take from this game”, Marks said. Twice on the drive, the Cougars converted third downs of at least 10 yards.

“I mean, we’ve been playing everybody so close and to the wire, it’s about time we figure out a way to come out on top”, WSU coach Mike Leach said. If you didn’t get to play the game in the 80’s when it was hi-tech for the times, there are versions on the Internet today that are pretty easy to find.
