Taliban insurgents claimed responsibility for the attack in the city centre that broke a period of relative calm in Kabul after a series of bombings in August.

According to local television channel Tolo News, the foreign troop was attacked by suicide bombers in the Afghan capital.

“A few civilians were injured, but we do not have any reports of any death”, Afghan ministry of interior spokesperson Najib Danish said. “It was a suicide attack targeting a foreign forces convoy”, Kabul police spokesman Ebadullah Karimi told AFP. The militants captured northern Kunduz city in late September, their most spectacular victory since 2001.

Afghanistan has once again been gripped under Islamic extremism, as the country’s internal security weakened following the decision of United States of America to withdraw its troops. President Barack Obama has apologised over the strike, with three different investigations – led by North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, U.S. forces and Afghan officials – now under way.
