Visitors to Hermosa Beach Friday afternoon to beat the heat wave that moved through Southern California try to find relief at the shoreline.

Humidity will dip and officials are warning of increased fire danger.

In the next few days, however, the weather will remain moderately hot.

“A Heat Advisory is issued when the risk of heat related illnesses become elevated, and when temperatures are abnormally high”, said NBC 7 Meteorologist Jodi Kodesh. The previous high of 103 was set in September of 1978.

The NWS issued a heat advisory throughout Orange County Friday from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m.

Sea surface temperatures are in the 70-72 degree range.

Stay hydrated and wear light, loose fitting clothing. There also was heavy surf and unsafe rip currents reported along area beaches.

Forecasters said the heat wave, the product of high pressure anchored over the southwestern United States, will peak Friday and begin to retreat Saturday, followed by a drop of five to 10 degrees Sunday.
