The 23-man roster the Red Wings submit on Tuesday might not be the roster they intend to start the season with. The Leafs are in a similar situation.

The team says Thursday that DeKeyser was hurt in the third period of Wednesday night’s game against the Penguins in Pittsburgh. Detroit improved from 2013-14 to 2014-15, despite poor goaltending, and the Wings are arguably better personnel-wise this season.
“My job is to be ready to play”, Ouellet said.
“We’ll use it, properly, and try to improve it”, the coach told reporters.

As it stands now, I’d be shocked if Bernier didn’t see a huge portion of the games as the starting goaltender. “I’m just excited to be a piece of the puzzle”.

The Wings are hoping Green will be the offensively minded, puck moving and-most importantly-right-handed defenseman the team has been searching for. The staff has given more time to Brendan Smith and Tomas Jurco.
There are a lot of little differences that add up to what I think is a significant improvement in the utilization of Wings personnel.
And who will replace DeKeyser as Mike Green’s partner?

Babcock, who left Detroit as the all-time winningest coach, took over a winning organization and helped maintain its success. The team was completely dysfunctional under Carlyle. I dont know if theres more pressure now than before.

Closing up the preseason, we can see that new head coach Jeff Blashill and his assistant coaching squad have built on Detroit’s power-play system of past year while making subtle changes to improve its efficiency and productivity. We saw it in Grand Rapids and we’re already seeing it in Detroit, and especially coming from the veterans, that’s huge.
“Whoever is here, the seven that are here, it’ll remain competitive”, Blashill said. Im very confident well dress six defensemen who are absolutely good enough to win and now we just got to execute on a nightly basis.. I think the biggest difficulty this season (on the ice, at least) will be their lack of high-end talent up front.
