Brewers win series opener

Carlos Gomez scored the go-ahead run on a seventh-inning error, and the Milwaukee Brewers beat the New York Mets 3-2 Tuesday night at Miller Park. Gilmartin pitching. Fiers threw a wild pitch that allowed Flores to advance from second to third with one out. Curtis Granderson’s fourth-inning home run was Nelson’s lone mistake as he improved to 4-8 this season.

The New York Mets have no answers offensively during a winless trip, though they could make strides facing a pitcher who has been battered at Miller Park.

As the offense searches for answers it does not help that d’Arnaud will be sidelined for at least two weeks with a left elbow strain.

The loss on the field wasn’t the Mets only one of the day as catcher Travis d’Arnaud landed on the disabled list with a sprained left elbow. The Mets won’t ever be confused for a championship contender, but what they do, they do a bit better than the Brewers.

The Brewers held a moment of silence for Hamilton prior to their first game since Hamilton was found dead Sunday in suburban Houston, the victim of an apparent murder-suicide.

The Mets are 36-36 and 2.5 games out of first place in the National League East.
