The reported bombing of al-Baghdadi comes as the United States and its allies staged 24 air strikes on ISIS in Syria and Iraq yesterday.
The alleged leader of Daesh Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, aka Caliph Ibrahim, addressing worshipers at a mosque in the militant-held northern Iraqi city of Mosul, July 5, 2014.
The statement was released by the “war media cell”, a structure which provides updates on the war against IS and speaks for the interior and defence ministries as well as the paramilitary Popular Mobilisation forces.
The statement added that the airstrike was conducted in coordination with intelligence services, the military, and the US-led coalition of worldwide forces.
There have previously been reports that the IS leader has been killed or seriously injured in attacks, but none was subsequently confirmed.
