San Francisco 49ers outside linebacker Ahmad Brooks won’t play in the team’s Week 5 Sunday Night Football contest against the New York Giants. Williams told CSN Bay Area that Brooks plans to return to the 49ers early next week and is likely to be available to play October. 18 against the Baltimore Ravens at Levi’s Stadium. Brooks is one of the starters at outside linebacker and while he hasn’t been playing great football this season, he’s a solid all-around player and his absence will surely hurt the 49ers on defense.

On Sunday, rookie outside linebacker Eli Harold tore into the Packers’ backfield, sized up one of the game’s top quarterbacks in anticipation of his first career sack and… whiffed. “I was like, ‘I’m about to sack one of the best guys in the league.’ In a snap of a finger, he broke the tackle”.
Ideally, in the situation where Brooks isn’t around, Lemonier wouldn’t be that guy, though I think the 49ers could obviously do worse there.
“You can’t do the same thing over and over again because he’s going to get his players, his group into the right spots”, the coordinator said.
“He comes off like a really cool and collected guy”, Lynch said of Rodgers.
If Harold doesn’t start opposite Lynch, it probably will be Lemonier, whose only career sack came two years ago.
Mangini said the key for the 49ers is mixing up defensive looks against a 12-year veteran like Manning. “I was moving a little too fast on that play”.

Left tackle Joe Staley, for a second consecutive day, rode a stationary bike in the weight room rather than practice because of Sunday’s knee injury. “We made a few adjustments that we feel good about going into this game”, Chryst said. I hope, if nothing else, we see Harold get a handful of snaps, at least 20, and all on defense.
