Sens. Wyden, Merkley call for gun control after Roseburg shooting

According to the Washington Post report they spoke a number of members of the Obama administration all saying that the President is giving serious consideration acting on this issue.

The president is considering actions to force smaller gun sellers to conduct background checks. In August that year, Obama closed two gun sale loopholes through executive authority, subjecting gun purchases by corporations and trusts to background checks and banning nearly all re-imports of military surplus firearms to private entities.

“I do not believe an executive order’s going to solve any problems here”, Louisiana Rep. John Fleming told Sinclair Broadcasting. It makes no sense for an individual to own 15 different guns, and no one questions the goal of an arsenal of guns. The Oregon shooting is the 45th mass shooting this year.

Rather, we all suffer from a culture that increasingly values domination over cooperation, intimidation over nurturance, violence over life. Simply ignore the person.

“You know, the NRA’s position reminds me of negotiating with the Iranians or the Communists”, she said. “But it is part of the American mythological experience that gun ownership is central to our identity as a country”.

“And the fact is there are a lot of things that can be done that don’t undermine the basic constitutional rights of law-abiding Americans”, Earnest said.
