The Eagles had consecutive false start penalties before getting whistled for delay of game after their first two offensive plays. The defensive domination wasn’t a shocker given both teams entered the game with two of the stoutest units in the country. Wake executed, and Boston College did not.

Wake only ended up having 142 yards of total offense compared to 270 yards for Boston College. Thus BC unexpectedly found itself with possession at the 11-yard line with 56 seconds left and in position to win the game or at least send it to overtime.

So watching the Deacs prevail against the No. 1 defense in America has to give them something to build on, even if they didn’t generate much on offense. “We said that before the play: ‘Don’t get up”.
What it means for Wake Forest: The Deacs have shown major improvement compared to a year ago, but they still managed to drop close games to Indiana and Florida State. The Eagles could not set up to run another play in time, and thus suffered a heartbreaking 3-0 loss to the Deacons at Alumni Stadium.
