The result will be academic now that qualification has been secured but, having suffered a first defeat of the campaign in Bosnia, Wales can end it on a high and toast their historic achievement in front of a delirious home crowd.

So Wales will now head to France next summer, 58 years after their only previous major finals appearance at the 1958 World Cup in Sweden.

“When we come off losing 2-0 I thought we would have to go again but our secretary gave us the Israel result and it was complete elation”, former Wales defender Coleman said.
