McCullers, who held the Royals to one run in seven innings in a June 29 start, did not bother pretending this start won’t be special.
The Kansas City Royals took advantage, rallying from a three-run hole for a 5-4 victory Friday that evened their series at a game apiece as it shifts to Houston.
The Astros can close out the ALDS and advance to the American League Championship series with one more win.
The game: Houston erased a 1-0 lead on Jason Castro’s two-run single in the fifth, and Dallas Keuchel and the bullpen made it stand as the Astros pushed the defending AL champions to the brink of elimination.
Kansas City’s alleviation unit was in fact just simply better, maintaining the first acquire through a apartment squad this postseason.
The Royals will send Edinson Volquez to the mound who was slipping during the second half of the season until he finished with three consecutive strong outings.
“In the minor leagues we’re kind of groomed to come up here and contribute”, said 27-year-old Pham, a late bloomer. The Astros’ infielders were playing Morales to pull and what would have been a double-play ball against a normal defensive alignment because a real pain in the tush for Houston. Every move he tried in Game 2 seemed to go awry. They’d also missed out on a couple of opportunities in those innings allowing the Houston pitcher to work out of multiple situations with RISP.
The Rangers, who like the Astros weren’t expected to be here this year, took care of Cy Young candidate David Price Thursday. In those two games, Keuchel pitched 14.2 innings and allowed five runs on 17 hits with 12 strikeouts (3.17 ERA).
Perhaps they don’t know any better. Hosmer also drove in a run.
In fairness, those are tough matchups for a left-handed hitter, but Hosmer actually had four hits in six career at-bats against Keuchel. Right fielder Alex Rios laced a double to right center.
Maybe you’ve heard: the Astros are the new Royals. The Royals ended up winning the game and the series against the Astros.
“Besides, I thought it passed the eye test. But we’ve got the best umpires in the world for a reason so they’re doing job as well”. But he got Ben Zobrist to ground into a fielder’s choice, then struck out Cain to end the game.
The last time Houston saw Volquez, the Astros were completing a three-game sweep of the Royals in Houston. Only two of them came back to win the series: the 2001 Yankees against the A’s and the ’12 Giants against the Reds, each in the division series.

Cueto at last settled in, yet it looked as though it would be past the point of no return. A few were meant for Rasmus while others were directed at Cueto, but only one thing was for certain – Kansas City was in deep trouble. Though they’ve already played three postseason games, suiting up for the first one at home adds a little something extra to Sunday’s game.
