J&K House adopts ‘harmony’ resolution

Chief minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed acknowledged Mr Abdullah’s concern and complimented him for raising the issue.
Speaking on near similar lines on religious tolerance, Sayeed and Omar Abdullah spoke eloquently as the assembly unanimously passed a resolution pledging to uphold the ethos of the country’s only Muslim-majority state.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today reiterated governments resolve to incorporate the picturesque meadow of Tosa Maidan within the jurisdiction of Dudpathri Development Authority while stressing the need to protect environment in pursuit of developing new tourist spots. As soon as the Question Hour ended, opposition NC leader Omar Abdullah said a deliberate attempt was being made to destroy the amity and harmony of the state.
“We represent people of the state”.
“Despite Jinnah sahib’s popularity, Kashmiris sided with Sheikh in his mission of religious tolerance and secularism”, Sayeed said.
“Though we have been unsuccessful so far to fill the gap between Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh, but it is my dream to unite all the three regions”, he said.
He said it was in the Sopore convention of 1938 when the fight for independence was still ongoing in the subcontinent that Sheikh Abdullah took the stand and turned Muslim Conference into National Conference.
He said India has a diverse sections of people and they have to make country economically empower.
Sayeed said the people of J&K had rejected Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s ideology when he visited Kashmir before 1947 and “conveyed to him that their path was different”.
He also thanked Omar Abdullah for bringing in the resolution.

The resolution was later adopted unanimously as members from the Peoples Democratic Party, the National Conference, the Congress and the BJP as well as independents raised their hands in its favour.
