O’Malley slams Clinton on trade

In her 2014 book, she said she voted “after weighing the evidence and seeking as many opinions as I could”.

Bernie Sanders says he doesn’t attack people personally.

Crowds can be like campaign yard signs: Reading too much into the size is fraught with peril. He has had no-one playing Mrs Clinton in practice sessions, because there are no practice sessions. “One of the takeaways was: Don’t explain so much”.

Meanwhile her nearest competitors, Vermont Senator Sanders and United States Vice President Joe Biden, who has yet to decide whether he will run, both made gains. A mariachi band opened the event with a series of songs and earned big applause when the members yelled “Viva Bernie Sanders” in the middle of their song. “I happen to hate the message”.

“Secretary Clinton is always quick for the military intervention”.

“Oh, yes. You’ve got to accuse him of something”.

He said the only thing Sanders can do in the face of his long odds in Arizona is “stay the course”. Right now, most reporters are (rightly) focused on who will be on camera – the candidates and CNN moderator Anderson Cooper – while keeping Vice President Joe Biden, who hasn’t decided if he’ll enter the race, in the back of their minds.

Republican presidential candidates will also go head-to-head this month in an October. 28 debate hosted by CNBC at the University of Colorado.

The Democratic CNN debate airs 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in Las Vegas. Sanders doesn’t have that experience. In New Hampshire, Sanders leads Clinton by 11 points. Clinton has praised Sanders for his advocacy on various issues and the enthusiasm he’s generated.

Yet his efforts have yielded little support. Coming from a liberal but rural state, where hunting is very popular, Sanders has opposed numerous gun restrictions that Clinton and other Democrats tend to support.

“Over the years, Mrs. Clinton has also demonstrated a deftness that has thrown off her male political opponents, who are careful to avoid bullying the only woman onstage”, the story reads.

The leading contenders will not be the only ones on the stage Tuesday. Sanders and Clinton will be joined by Martin O’Malley, Lincoln Chafee and Jim Webb.

O’Malley in particular seems eager to capitalize on an opportunity that he described as “make or break” for his struggling campaign.

He has spent many hours so far this month prepping with a cadre of top advisors, including campaign manager David Hamrick, deputy campaign manager Lis Smith, strategist Bill Hyers, and longtime advisor Steve Kearney. In the debate, he needs the same sort of breakthrough moment as O’Malley and Webb, but analysts say his reserved manner may make it harder for him.

Friday night’s event was a unique one for Sanders. Sitting in a room full of 35 people going through a bunch of hypothetical questions…Bernie’s just going to go “come on”.

“He just doesn’t want to do that stuff”. She is firm. She is fluent.

During that earlier race, for example, she appeared unprepared when she was asked whether she backed a proposal by then-New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer to grant driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants. But the teacher, Jerry Baker, was intent on challenging her to argue the other side.

Clinton’s 2002 vote in favor of the Iraq War hung over her for a decade.

Speaking on NBC’s “Meet the Press”, Sanders listed a number of progressive stances he had held from the start, that Clinton only recently came around to – opposition to the Keystone Pipeline and the Trans-Pacific Partnership, in particular – and said voters will have to “contrast my consistency and my willingness to stand up to Wall Street and corporations, big corporations, with the secretary”.

Sanders’ aides say he doesn’t intend to mix it up with rivals on stage unless he’s forced into a confrontation by moderators.
