Adrian Beltre excused from Rangers’ workout, remains day-to-day

Texas Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre left Thursday’s AL Division Series opener against the Toronto Blue Jays in tears after hurting his back on a slide.

Beltre didn’t take batting apply and was seen exclusively briefly outdoors the Rangers’ clubhouse earlier than the sport. Yet the bullpen came up big again, throwing seven shutout innings, and the Rangers’ habit of creating offense out of nothing stole them a game and a sweep on the road. Alberto singled in the go-ahead run against right-hander LaTroy Hawkins in the 14th inning of Game 2.

Beltre will be reevaluated before Sunday’s game. Hanser Alberto replaced Beltre, committing a second-inning error that led to an unearned run, and infielders Joey Gallo and Ed Lucas worked out with the club after arriving from Arizona after midnight Thursday. An MRI on his back showed no structural damage. The play was close enough for the Blue Jays to challenge as it appeared Odor’s foot came off the bag while shortstop Troy Tulowitzki attempted a tag.

Elvis Andrus and Josh Hamilton have been fast outs to begin the 14th, however Odor reached on an infield hit and went to second as Chris Gimenez adopted with a single to…

Keuchel went 15-0 with a 1.46 ERA at Minute Maid Park this season, which is the best such mark in modern major league history, eclipsing two pitchers for the Red Sox’s Boo Ferriss and Tex Hughson, who both went 13-0 in 1946. He needed 24 pitches to get through that inning, but there’s still a chance he could be the one who gets the ball.

On Sunday when the Astros host a playoff game for the first time since the 2005 World Series, Keuchel will try to extend the mark and give Houston a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five A.L. Division Series against Kansas City.

Toronto starter Marcus Stroman took a 4-3 lead into the eighth.

Beltre hit. 287 with 18 home runs and 83 RBIs this season.

“I’m trying to absorb all the back pain I possibly can”, Banister said.
