Shovel Knight Xbox One Retail Release Cancelled, Retail Price Raised

Usually fans would be outraged by issues like these, but Yacht Club Games is handling the matter in a very classy way, by doing things like throwing in the digital soundtrack to make up for the slight increase in price.

“Shovel Knight”, which was released initially in June 2014, is “a sweeping classic action adventure game” with an “8-bit retro aesthetic” design, Yacht Club Games’ page for “Shovel Knight” indicated.

Shovel Knight developer Yacht Club Games has made a flurry of announcements just weeks ahead of the expected physical release. For starters, the physical release has been pushed back a little.it’s now hitting November 3rd in North America, October 30th in Europe. Disappointed that it isn’t going to get an Xbox One release? “The digital version of Shovel Knight on Xbox One is already available and will, of course, continue to receive new updates and our full support”, Yacht Club Gameswrote on its blog. The studio credited the delay to “publishing policies on the [Xbox One] that are beyond our control”.

Finally, the Xbox One retail version of Shovel Knight has been cancelled.

If you pre-ordered it at $19.99 though, you will be still paying that price. Even though the price has increased, the developer states that your original price should still be honored.

If it helps ease the pain at all, Yacht Club have offered a small consolation in that the physical copy will now come with a code to go download that fantastic soundtrack by Jake Kaufman. That won’t happen in time for this holiday season, but the official line is to “hang in there a bit longer”. This decision was funded less by greed and more by exposure as several retailers told the studio that shelf space was a limited and that a game under $20 would only be featured in a bargain bin.
