Memphis officer died after being shot multiple times

A Memphis police officer has died after he was shot in Cordova Sunday afternoon.

Armstrong said the investigation is ongoing and that “details are sketchy”.

Cops identified the officer as Terence Olridge, who had been with the department for a little more than a year.

The shooting happened just before 1 p.m.in the 2600 block of Longshadow Lane.

Armstrong said a man has been detained as a suspect, but no charges had been filed. Armstrong said at this point, police have “more questions than we have answers”. He was able to crawl back to the house to get help, the uncle said.

Olridge’s uncle said the officer was on his way to work in his uniform when he was shot while in his vehicle, CNN affiliate WREG reported.

Neighbors said they heard at least 15 gunshots, WMC reported.

“Pray for him his family and the department and the city”, said Mayor A C Wharton.

It was not clear whether the officer was shot while on-duty or off-duty.

A suspect in Bolton’s death was arrested two days later.

“Just another life gets taken, someone’s life gets taken another day”. Bolton was white, and Wilbourn is black.In past shootings, Armstrong has addressed the media outside the Regional Medical Center.“I didnt think that wed be here again so soon, ” Armstrong told reporters on Sunday.
