Paul Ryan is going as Mitt for Halloween

On CNN’s State of the Union, Rep. Tom Cole, R-Okla., an ally of Boehner, said he hoped Ryan would decide to run.

With the zeal of a college football coach trying to woo a blue-chip recruit, House Republicans are aggressively trying to persuade Rep. Paul Ryan to run for House speaker after Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s surprising withdrawal from consideration. In the past, he firmly said he didn’t want the speaker job. They actually decided that I would be the best candidate.

The challenge of becoming the Speaker right now could be a factor in what Ryan ultimately decides.

Cheffetz also defended his own achievements, responding to California Rep. Darrell Issa’s comments that the Utah representative has taken a break from holding the government accountable.

DesJarlais contends that he and his fellow House Freedom Caucus members should not be criticized for the conservative principles they expect from the speaker.

“As I’ve said before, Paul Ryan is a friend”, said Jordan”.

“I think he’s somebody that probably that could get good support”. “We’re more than happy to”, he said.

“We would ask that members not commit to a determinative course of action before our conference can meet and find a shared set of goals and governing vision that benefits the nation and our constituents”, the letter said.

Besides Conaway, U.S. Rep. Bill Flores, R-Bryan, the chairman of the powerful Republican Study Committee, is reportedly exploring a run.

“Great example is Tim Huelskamp, a congressman from Kansas, a place where they have a bit of agriculture, was kicked off the Agriculture Committee, because he wouldn’t do what the top people in the house told him to do”, Jordan said.

But Ryan, who still has small children, has indicated he doesn’t want to take the time away from his family that the job requires.

In a statement, South Dakota representative Kristi Noem says she’s looking for someone who can, “Move forward a smart, conservative agenda”. “But he would make it very hard for House conservatives because to oppose Ryan is, in the minds of much of the press, to oppose conservatism itself”, Erickson added.

Ryan has obviously stayed out of the 2016 fray but at just 45 with such strong support and national clout, a presidential campaign in years to come is not out of the question.

“I think he checks every box”. “I’ve always argued there should be more people in the race not less”.

But on Sunday, members of the rebel Freedom Caucus and the GOP establishment broadcast their potential support for Ryan, creating what appears to be the sole point of agreement between them after a tumultuous week that left the race for speaker wide open. “All 247 members won an election”.

“I want to see who else is in the race”.

Johnson also likened himself to George Washington when the moderator said Johnson seemed like he was reluctantly running for a second term. “I am not running against a personality or a name”.
