Two ex- Pistons will be key to the New York Knicks climbing their way out of irrelevancy.

In addition to the selection of Porzingis, New York traded one of their few young prospects in shooting guard Tim Hardaway Jr., in exchange for the rights to the 19th overall pick in the draft, Notre Dame point guard Jerian Grant.

There have been a lot of New York Knicks rumors this offseason when it comes to players that might want to go play for Phil Jackson. He could be a valuable piece in the triangle offense if the Knicks continue to use it. Monroe isn’t the answer for the Knicks at big man to get them to a championship level, but he is a solid second option on any team.

Teams are permitted to meet with free agents beginning on Wednesday.

With Monroe expecting to command a maximum contract on the market, Afflalo could earn a deal in the neighborhood of three years, $36 million-$38 million, league sources said.

As of now, the player most likely to receive a max deal from New York figures to be Monroe. Last season he averaged 13.3 points a game but his efficiency took a hit (his 53.3 true shooting percentage was right at the league average). The five-year man out of Georgetown averaged a double-double last season with 15.9 points and 10.2 rebounds per game.

Still, the Knicks have money to burn and they do need to get a tiny better now. He also reports free agent wing Wesley Matthews could be in their summer plans, with Danny Green on the radar as well. When healthy, Afflalo is effective on both sides of the floor.
