Great British Bake Off: Nadiya crowned victor in ‘tastiest finale yet’

The victor of this year’s competition added that she enjoyed the experience most out of all the weeks. Nadiya has been known to let her nerves get to her; however, she’s probably the best baker out of the finalists when her creativity shines through.

She said that in contrast to other rounds, she was much more confident going into the final.

She said: “I’m not really a big cookery fan but it’s the Bake Off isn’t it?”

She continued: “My friends all want me to tell Nadiya she’s awesome and want me to ask Tamal to marry them”.

She impressed the judges with her iced buns, millefeuille and patriotic Union Jack-themed wedding cake wrapped in a sari.

“My husband Abdal’s favourite cake is lemon drizzle, so I decided to make that”.

The 30-year-old, who became loved for her expressive face, said it was “surreal” to finally be able to talk about her achievement after keeping her win on the BBC show a secret.

“What I hope though is that in my lifetime we don’t talk about someone’s faith but their talent – the fact that they’re Muslim isn’t seen as important”. Being a mother of three small children all under ten is time consuming but Nadiya says she wanted her own adventure and had a very supportive husband. “In the first episode I looked around at everyone else’s Black Forest Gateaux and felt out of my depth”.

She stole the nation’s hearts and reduced Marry Berry to tears so it is any wonder Bake Off’s new champion, Nadiya Hussain, feels utterly exhausted?

She might not have won the 2013 series but Ruby has just been voted Bake Off’s favourite ever contestant by readers of Radio Times. In the technial challenge where contestants are given only the bones of a recipe for something famously tricky, Nadiya fretted over the maths of assembling three layers by six, but ultimately came out with the most even batch of the three, while Ian’s candystripe icing fell apart in Mary’s hands. Her family is originally from Bangladesh, where desserts aren’t a big feature of mealtimes, but encouraged by a school home economics teacher, Nadiya now delivers attractive masterpieces at family occasions.

The second challenge of the day was the final technical challenge of the series.

“But it is still great and I am really looking forward to the final”.

The bookie has now been forced to close the market on the victor of this year’s series, telling the Daily Star that the culprit wasn’t exactly clued up about how to get away with such shenanigans.
