The quake was shallow, at a depth of about 1 km (0.6 miles), with its epicenter at 5 km (3 miles) from Cushing, it said.
No immediate reports of injuries or damage were reported in either natural disaster.
Oklahoma Geological Survey records show there have been almost 700 earthquakes of magnitude 3 or larger in Oklahoma this year. It followed a magnitude-4.4 quake recorded at 4:20 a.m. about 18 miles southwest of Medford and about 100 miles northwest of Cushing.
Cushing is the storage hub for USA crude oil, at the nexus of web of pipelines. Cushing Emergency Management Director Bob Noltensmeyer said Sunday that no significant damage was found, only “shattered nerves”.
