George RR Martin is having another of his novels turned into a TV series – and it’s another supernatural tale. Kalinda Vazquez (co-executive producer of Once Upon a Time) will adapt Martin’s work, which focuses on a young detective investigating a string of brutal murders in her small town (the victims are skinned). Reportedly, Cinemex has already ordered the script for a pilot episode to be made, based off of The Skin Trade.

In his blog post, Martin talks about The Skin Trade’s “storied, and complex, publishing history”.

“A collections agent, who happens to be a werewolf, and his friend, a private investigator, discover a dark secret behind a series of grisly murders in their decaying industrial city”.

After the stratospheric success of Game of Thrones, it was only a matter of time before TV executives started raiding George R.R. Martin’s back catalog for more shows. So we’re a few decades late…

George R.R. Martin also wrote in his blog that while he was not going “to write and run the show”, because he had “this book to finish”.

“Skin Trade” originally belongs to a horror fiction compilation “Dark Visions”, which compiles stories from author Stephen King and Dan Simmons too along with George R.R. Martin. “You know the one”.

Game of Thrones fans had thought that Martin had already finished writing the sixth book, so they are now wondering if the book has actually been completed, or not. “The novella was very well received, and went on to win that year’s World Fantasy Award”. Skin Trade falls under the two-year development deal Martin has with HBO.
