“I had a spinal fluid leak during the first surgery”, he told the media Sunday at the Warriors’ practice facility.

On Sunday, Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr revealed that a spinal fluid leak led to his indefinite leave of absence.
A former NBA point guard for multiple NBA squads including the Chicago Bulls and San Antonio Spurs, the 50-year-old Kerr is one of the top young coaches in the league despite his limited experience as head mentor in the NBA. We wish Kerr the best in his recovery, and hopefully he’s able to return by the time the regular-season hits.
After initially not giving specific details about the injury, why did Kerr choose to disclose the information now?
The 53-year-old had surgery to fix a ruptured disk on July 28.
“The leak is fixed, but still getting a few symptoms, but that’s why I’m out”, he said.
Kerr had further surgery to address the problem at the start of September, which has caused his absence from the team. “It’s a matter of your body sort of recalibrating”, he said. “I’m not going to be put a timetable on when I’m going to come back”. “I wanted to be clear to you guys and the fans”.
In the meantime, Kerr is resting, reading, and rehabbing with swimming pool drills and walking.

Kerr appointed Luke Walton as interim coach and said he is not sure when he’ll return. “It’s unbelievably frustrating. I want to be here, but I also know that I’ve got to be careful”.
