Before the Le Coq’s rise to prominence, Sporting Lisbon’s William Carvalho was regularly linked with a move to Arsenal.

It appeared the Gunners would face a few serious competition as the Metro then claimed that Chelsea had joined the race for Carvalho’s signature with Jose Mourinho supposedly identifying the Sporting star as the man to rejuvenate his flagging team.

He was close to an exit over the summer, but after picking up an injury for Portugal in the European Under-21 Championships, all moves for his services were put on hold.

Nevertheless, Carvalho is targeting a Portuguese league title with Sporting first, but has revealed his fondness for the Gunners and their legendary former player Thierry Henry.

‘I prefer not to say, but there is a club with which I’ve always empathised – Arsenal, ‘ he told A Bola, as quoted by the Daily Express.

“I dream of winning the Primeira Liga here”.

‘Maybe this is why I look with more attention to the Premier League’.
