Veeneman described the terrain as treacherous in the area where the boys disappeared.

Authorities reported that they have found two cousins alive in Kentucky’s Red River Gorge after they had gone missing for almost a day during a camping trip.

“They’re just chowing down right now”, May said in a telephone interview.

For the family, it was “a nailbiter of a night” as the search continued, Esposito said.

They told family that they slept on the ground under a tree.

The boys were found about two miles from the family campsite, hungry but unharmed, said John May, deputy chief of the Wolfe County Search and Rescue Team.

Julia Esposito said her father has taken his children and grandchildren to the campsite many times in the past. The men were setting up the campsite when the boys disappeared, he said. A helicopter also flew over the area as part of the search. “The searchers are trying to… make sure that there is no holes or caves or crevasses or anything where the boys are hiding”.
