Listen To First Lady Michelle Obama’s “Day Of The Girl” Playlist
Mrs. Obama’s DJ stint also saw pop hits Girl on Fire by Alicia Keys and Bang Bang by Jessie J, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj get a spin, alongside TLC’s No Scrubs and Destiny’s Child’s Survivor.

The list of 20 songs is a testament to female singers and female empowerment, in honor of Day of the Girl. She also included soundtracks for film and Broadway such as Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth’s duet “Defying Gravity”, sung by Elphaba and Glinda in “Wicked“, and, of course, The Barden Bellas.
The release was in honor of October. 11, which the United Nations declared the worldwide Day of the Girl in 2013 in order to raise awareness about all issues concerning gender inequality around the world.
“These efforts will be community-generated and community-led, based on solutions devised by local leaders, families and girls themselves”, Mrs. Obama wrote.
Last month, Beyonce brought Michelle Obama on stage at the Global Citizen Festival in New York, where the first lady urged a campaign to bring education to the estimated 62 million girls around the world who are out of school.
Earlier this year the White House launched it’s own channel on Spotify that was used to share Michelle Obama’s playlist and was used at release for two playlist’s “hand-created” by US President Barack Obama.
