Pirates’ Sean Rodriguez makes peace with water cooler

He stared at his Pirates counterpart and voice out his dissatisfaction with the pitcher’s decision. We speak not of the Pirates’ 4-0 wild card game loss to the Cubs – the pain from that will radiate for a few time.

“I hit two guys, unintentionally”. Pirates reliever Tony Watson retaliated in the top of the seventh by hitting Arrieta in the backside with a fastball. Watson was issued a warning.

Chicago will now look to take down the Cardinals, who have defeated the Cubs in 11 of their 19 matchups this season.

Given an evening of quiet reflection and a night of restorative sleep, however, Rodriguez is now sufficiently contrite. Rodriguez worked several combinations on the cooler before it tumbled to the ground. Rodriguez took to Twitter to apologize on Thursday “for allowing my emotions to control my actions in a negative manner”.

Rodriguez might be the first to have a Christ-like Gatorade cooler personally apologize to him, but there’s a long tradition of player-on-cooler violence in baseball.
