Israeli strike kills 2 Palestinians in Gaza

Military spokesman Lt. Col. Peter Lerner said that given the history of Palestinian cross-border attacks, Israel “must consider any breach of the buffer zone with Gaza to be a potential threat both to civilians and security forces”.

In 12 days of violent clashes in cities throughout Israel, the Gaza Strip and the Israeli-occupied West Bank, four Israelis and 22 Palestinians have been killed, including two Palestinian boys ages 13 and 15 who were shot by Israeli forces.

After days of unrest elsewhere, Gaza has been drawn into the violence since Friday, with clashes along the border leaving nine Palestinians dead, including teenagers, from Israeli fire.

This fatality comes after the Palestinian Ministry of Health released a report yesterday evening (09/10/15) stating that – until 08:30 pm Friday evening – seven Palestinians were killed, 200 at least were injured of live and rubber bullets and another seven Palestinians suffered of bruises for being severely beaten in the confrontations with the Israeli occupation forces yesterday. Mr Netanyahu quoted Ms Zoabi as saying to a Hamas newspaper that “hundreds of thousands of worshippers should go to the Al-Aksa Mosque to stand up against Israel’s conspiracy to condone violence against east Jerusalem residents”.

Eleven Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since Friday. Israel captured east Jerusalem in 1967, and most Palestinian residents there hold residency rights, but not citizenship.

Hamas, which rules Gaza, remains deeply divided from president Mahmud Abbas’s West Bank-based Fatah. The police officer was lightly injured.

A few 1,500 people gathered in the Israeli-Arab city of Nazareth Saturday to demonstrate solidarity with the Palestinians.

Amos Gilad, a senior Israeli defence official, said security cooperation with the Palestinian Authority, which exercises limited self-rule in the West Bank, was continuing.

Netanyahu said he told Kerry he expected the Palestinian Authority to stop its “wild and mendacious incitement, which is causing the current wave of terrorism”. He said four others were wounded, included Ms Hassan’s husband and son, in the strike in the southern Gaza strip. Not only does it continue to arrest and oppress Islamist operatives in the West Bank, but Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah on Sunday met with the governors of the northern and central Gaza Strip, promising to prioritize construction efforts following last year’s war with Israel.

It was another emotional day for Palestinians in al-Khalil, (Hebron) after the burial of martyr Muhammad al-Jabari who was shot to death by Israeli forces near the entrance to the illegal Kiryat Arba settlement. In a separate incident, a Palestinian wielding a knife killed two Israeli men and wounded a mother and toddler in Jerusalem before being shot dead.
