Marc Wilmots: Vincent Kompany could play in Belgium qualifier

However, Belgium boss Marc Wilmots said around that time after naming Kompany in his squad that the player was “fit” and had a “big chance” to play against Israel.

The centre-back has missed several games of late with a calf problem, and Pellegrini was keen for Kompany to be left out of Belgium’s fixtures during this global break.

Pellegrini is hopeful of having Kompany available for City’s home game against Bournemouth this weekend and the Chilean manager is understandably concerned about the possibility of Kompany aggravating his injury.

The defender was absent from Saturday’s 4-1 victory over Andorra, but Wilmots has refused to rule Kompany out of tomorrow’s final qualifier. We will decide together if he can play, but I think it will be alright.

“Vincent Kompany has participated fully in training and without any problems”, he said.

It also seems that the 29-year-old’s club haven’t been kept in the loop either, with Wilmots adding, “There’s been no contact with Manchester City”. The national team have a list of the players that play for them and they have, in the global break, the authority to use them.

“There’s one more practice before the match – Vincent has to prove he’s okay to play, then I have a choice to make”. “He has worked hard in training and knows his own body well”.

“I can not ask him (Kompany) not to travel”, Pellegrini said on October 2.

“He’s been working with the rest of the squad since Friday, and that’s good for Manchester City but good for Belgium”.
