MobileTechReview Forum, News and Reviews: Sprint Introduces “All-In”

Sprint today unveiled a new wireless pricing effort the company insists will “end consumer confusion and frustration” by rolling data, voice, SMS service and a device leasing fee all into one $80 monthly rate.

The ads featuring Beckham launch tonight during the US Women’s World Cup Match on the FOX Network. And, with all video being throttled, it’s hard to understand why you’d need to pay for unlimited 4G LTE data in the first place. “I really enjoyed making the advert and hopefully people will enjoy it too”, Beckham added. It’s cheaper than the unlimited plan that T-Mobile offers (when device costs are factored in), but it’s more expensive than previous Sprint plans featuring unlimited data. Instead of allowing customers a heavily discounted phone, like a $199 iPhone with a two-year contract, customers will see an addition of $20 to $30 on their bills to pay for their phones in full over time. Sprint believes this is the simplest, most straightforward, lowest-cost way to get a smartphone with unlimited data in wireless. But once at the store, consumers discover that the advertised price isn’t all in. To watch Sprint CEO Marcelo Claure describe the importance of All In to today’s wireless customers please visit https://youtu.be/USZ3Xdz0oDk. It also excludes taxes and “Sprint surcharges”.

The idea is that you get one easy-to-understand monthly rate for the cost of service + buying your smartphone, no matter which smartphone you buy. AT&T frequently advertises 10GB of data for $100 per month, but downplays the additional monthly charges including $15 line access and $27.08 for the phone.

Sprint’s offer follows on the heels of T-Mobile’s announcement last week that it would begin offering several of its high-end smartphones for no money down in return for 18 monthly payments as well as the standard cost of a service plan. A basic 16GB iPhone 6 and the 32GB Samsung Galaxy S6 are $20 per month, while a 64GB iPhone 6 or Galaxy S6 are $25 each per month, which would make the All-In monthly price $85. Sprint thinks by using the All-In pricing, that customers will be better informed on what they are paying for.
