Yes, Pepsi is on course to launch a mobile phone- and it’s called the P1.

The news has already taken millions aback because only few would have expected something as irrelevant as a smartphone from the notable Pepsi manufacturers.

Additionally there’s no confirmation that the Pepsi Phone will launch outside of China, so it might be a tech oddity that’s exclusive to the Orient.

Below is a leaked image that includes the alleged Pepsi phone specs.

PepsiCo China has been developing a branded smartphone that uses the Android operating system and will debut on October 20 in Beijing, according to MobiPicker. However, Pepsi has made a decision to emancipate itself from being nothing more than a drink. Owners may find themselves quickly having to delete photos though as there is only 16GB of internal storage. Cameras on the other hand are 13 megapixel for the rear facing shooter while the front facing camera is 5 megapixels.

The food and beverage company however has no plans to get into the mobile phone manufacturing business, a PepsiCo spokeswoman said by email.

All this will be, unsurprisingly, powered by Google’s Android operating system, specifically version 5.1.

The P1 will be considered mid-range, but as far as specs go, they’re pretty decent. In fact, if the leaked information is to be believed, then it’s likely that the Pepsi smartphone will retail at a price around $200. Be sure to let us know in the comments section below.
