Acer unveils new Windows 10 devices

Microsoft may have just revealed the Lumia 950 and 950 XL heroes for Windows 10 Mobile, but that doesn’t mean they’re the only game in town.

The Aspire Z3-700 at first looks like a traditional Windows 10 all-in-one, albeit with a smallish 17.3-inch display (1920×1080 with 10-point multi-touch and stylus support). The Acer Aspire R 14 will be available in North America in late October and will start at $699, the company announced on Oct. 12 when it unveiled the new devices. To reduce eye strain both devices employ Acer low blue light technology.

For exceptional portability the Z3-700 features a battery that is said to provide five hours of use away from the mains.

“Acer has a heritage of delivering the best user experience through innovation in technology and design”, said Acer corporate president and CEO Jason Chen.

Sticking with the industry trend of two-in-one devices, the Aspire R 14 is a laptop with a display that can fold over without gaps, turning it into a tablet. It also has integrated MU-MIMO wireless technology which can offer users with up to three times faster downloads compared to other 802.11ac products, especially in crowded networks.

Acer also refreshed its 14-inch Aspire R14 convertible notebook, adding Windows 10 and sixth-gen Intel Core processors.

The Aspire Z3-700 is a relatively odd evolution of the all-in-one PC. The Acer Aspire Z3-700 portable all-in-one PC will be launched in Europe, the Middle East and Asia by 2015 end; with its cost starting at approximately $680.

The Jade Primo features a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels, powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 process and 3GB of RAM with a 21MP rear camera with dual LED flash, and a 8MP front facing camera. Users get an Intel Skylake CPU, up to 8GB of RAM and storage thanks to an SSD drive.

The Z3-700 is powered by unspecified Intel Pentium and Celeron processors.

This tablet-meets-all-in-one approach, we’d argue, is not without its upsides, as it allows Acer to worry a little less about making the thinnest tablet out there and instead offer a fairly powerful, portable device at a fair price.
