“I think it’s insane”.

Not only is the parade going, but all signs of Halloween are being prohibited. “I think they’re excluding themselves”.

Victoria Johannsen, mother of a third-grader at Live Oaks School, said she heard about the decision via a letter last week from the school’s principal.

A Connecticut school district moved to ban Halloween celebrations this year, and the news has left parents spooked. The district also warned faculty that all activities be “fall-themed, not Halloween, and food is not an option”.

After parents were speaking out against this decision, the district announced on Monday afternoon it will hold a Halloween parade for all elementary students on Friday, October 30. This is just not right, ‘ Rebecca Lilley, who started the petition wrote on Change.org.

We are writing to you in response to the accusations that have been made against the school system around how we celebrate Halloween in the schools.

“If anything, they should be asking the people who feel excluded what they like to do, and having a party for them”, she said.

“These are our American customs and traditions and we should not have to give them up because others find them offensive!” she continued.

I’m so exhausted on my kids missing out on a few of the things we all got to do as children and are a few of the greatest childhood memories I have due to others saying they find it offensive.

Just before 5 p.m. Milford school officials released a statement to the media regarding Halloween in schools.

The thoughtful discussion centered on creating a Halloween celebration that would be inclusive of all children, would involve parents, and perhaps the larger community, would engage children in games, activities and more.

The chief operations officer for Milford Public Schools told the Connecticut Post that he didn’t have direct knowledge on the decision, but the entire student body does need to be respected. In addition, in recognition of many working parents who have difficulty leaving work to come to school, an evening event would allow them to be present with their children.
