The country’s defence ministry said on Sunday that French locals were in a training camp for (ISIS)Islamic State group jihadists that were hit by French air strikes last week.

French airstrikes on ISIL targets in Syria have killed a number of French jihadists, according to a source close to Prime Minister Manuel Valls.

We targeted a training camp where there were foreign Daesh fighters trained to come and attack us in France using another acronym for Islamic state, among them, there were French nationals and French speakers. “Terrorists do not have passports”.

“There is talk of about six killed coming probably from a Syrian non-governmental organization”, the source added.

France launched its first airstrike in Syria on September 27, saying it had destroyed an ISIL training camp.

France was shaken by a series of deadly Islamist attacks earlier this year, including the killing in January of 12 people at the office of the weekly Charlie Hebdo, which in articles and cartoons had satirised militant Islam. “There might well be French jihadists among them”, said the source in the delegation of Valls, who is now visiting Jordan as part of a Middle East tour. The decision to strike in Syria shows that concerns over Islamic State are beginning to outweigh its opposition to Mr. Assad.
