One revenge stabbing has occurred, with a 17-year-old Jew in the southern Israeli city of Dimona wounding two Palestinians and two Arab Israelis on Friday.

From the video, it appeared that police had been questioning several Palestinian men and checking their identity cards.

Since the latest wave of unrest began this month, eight Palestinians have been killed while carrying out attacks and 13 have been killed in protests and clashes in the West Bank and Gaza.

The 31-year-old woman set off the explosion in her vehicle, critically wounding herself and lightly wounding the officer.

Hours earlier, a border policeman shot dead a Palestinian who police said tried to stab him, according to Israeli police.

“Indiscriminate or deliberate firing on observers and demonstrators who pose no imminent threat violates the worldwide standards to which the Israeli security forces are bound”, HRW Executive Director Kenneth Roth said.

Meanwhile Arab Israelis held demonstrations throughout northern Israel on Sunday, blocking roads and burning tyres.

Similar clashes on October 9 killed seven Palestinian protesters and wounded 145 more in the bloodiest clashes in the Israeli-blockaded territory since the war of summer 2014.

A renewed surge in violence between Israelis and Palestinians is reaching boiling point, with Jerusalem’s mayor now urging Israelis to carry firearms at all times to combat “terrorists”.

Netanyahu also singled out Haneen Zoabi, an Arab member of the Knesset, calling for a criminal probe by the attorney general for comments she made in Hamas’s official publication al-Risala.

According to police, the attacker stabbed the policeman after being stopped when he was seen acting suspiciously. As he approached, she shouted “God is great” in Arabic and detonated the bomb, the police added.

The attack appeared to mark the first use of explosives in the current round of violence following a series of stabbing and shooting attacks.

The need for increased security was demonstrated Sunday evening when a 20-year-old Israeli Arab stabbed four people at a bus stop in northern Israel, seriously injuring a young woman, before being seized by civilians and police.

Ministry spokesman Ashraf Al-Kidra identified the mother as 30-year-old Noor Hassan.

Of those, 53 Palestinians were shot with live fire at Huwarra checkpoint south of Nablus, and a further 20 shot with live rounds – including expanding “dum-dum” bullets – in clashes in Tulkarem, the statement said.
