She asked the female passenger, the child’s grandmother if she was okay, and she told her that she had been shot.

Investigators are trying to determine whether the child was in a vehicle seat or if any gun laws were violated.

He apparently grabbed the gun and shot her in the back. She was taken to Carolinas Medical Center – Main in Charlotte. “I hope they get him a few help”, said Capt. Mark Bollinger.

“There’s been no charges at this time, but the detective division will look into it”, he said.

After the shooting, the boy’s great aunt drove the vehicle to a family member’s home on nearby Stanley Drive, the police report states.

While the injuries aren’t believed to be life threatening, Bollinger says the incident is a reminder for parents to keep their guns locked and stowed away from children.

Bollinger said the gun’s owner could face charges since the firearm wasn’t properly stored in the vehicle and was left in reach of a child.
