While a few fans gushed over Rihanna’s decision to opt for edgier album art rather than simply featuring a photo of herself for the cover, others expressed confusion over the symbolic meaning behind the black, red, and gold painting that Rihanna chose to serve as Anti’s official cover art.

Rihanna’s album is called Anti, but she has yet to reveal a release date for the record. The album cover art was courtesy of an Israeli painter, Roy Nachum.

According to Urban Islandz, the baby Rihanna in the painting depicted her first day at the pre-school, while the back cover showed the art with her same childhood image covering her back.

Nachum further explains that he worked on the artwork for Rihanna’s album for almost a year, noting that Rihanna asked to work with him after seeing pieces of his artwork hanging in Beyoncé and Jay Z’s home.

The cover also includes Braille art that we’ve seen in Rihanna’s previous singles, “FourFiveSeconds” and “B*tch Better Have My Money”. “The second one was more radio friendly and lighter and was named ‘Kiss it better” and featured the provocative voice of Rihanna accompanied by funky silky guitar sounds.

“This is my favorite album cover I’ve ever done,”she said to the screaming fans before a black sheet covering her album art was taken down”. So I really like that age”.
