Pakistan on Monday “deported” more than seventy stranded Indian passengers through Attari border after cancellation of the Samjhauta Express train due to farmers rail blockade in Indian Punjab. The bus runs between New Delhi and Lahore.

Samjhauta Express is now scheduled to arrive at Attari on October 15.

“It is the link train that the railway authorities have cancelled”.

Pakistan Railways’ Lahore Divisional Transportation Officer Shujat Hussain said officials from the Indian High Commission in Islamabad had contacted Pakistan Railways through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday morning about the status of their nationals.

After spending three days at the Lahore Railway Station and its adjacent hotels in Pakistan’s Punjab province, a total of 86 Indian passengers have left for their home by crossing the Wagah border on foot.

“The Indian security agencies seek to avoid any untoward situation arising from the prolonged protest of farmers on the railway tracks”, added the official sitting the same reason for the hold-up.
